Examining addiction, pleasure and arousal, Such Filthy Fucks exposes the negativity around people, particularly women, watching porn, porn addiction and the intimacy of life versus the screen.

Porn makes people in real life seem disgusting.

A love story of two porn addicts as they bond over what other people may find uncomfortable or unseemly, Such Filthy Fucks follows Luka, who is caught and disciplined for watching porn at work. A leading female scientist, she’s using porn as a release for the stress she’s under and the amount she works, and after returning from her suspension, she meets Jules, a teacher who she catches watching cam girls while on a school excursion. They discover they want each other and get together, and agree to give up porn together, and we see the different effects and ways they deal with this.

The two acclaimed actors Oliver Hubarnd and Alice McCarthy pull off their roles with grace, wit and serious punch – they embrace the idea of porn being taboo and explore sex positivity and bring Oli Forsyth’s words to life. The show is intelligent, emotional and balances the exploration of sex and shame alongside an emotional story line of illness, the work Luka does in pharmaceuticals to cure diseases, and the influence of her boss and her father’s illness.

The set is simple and really well lit to quickly transform the space, and the versatility and chemistry between the actors is brilliant.

Porn is everywhere, and it’s normal, and while the industry has a lot of issues, Pornhub gets 28 billion odd hits a year and there are only 8 billion people on the planet so. The show explores arousal and intimacy openly and openly admits the conflict for women around watching porn and their position in doing so, and how women are treated in this space for other’s pleasure, as well as the concept of addiction, whether porn addiction exists and whether it is something that can, or should be given up. It’s seriously slick, smart theatre with an intelligent message.

Such Filthy Fucks plays at Pleasance Dome until 26 August. More info.
